A wonderful outreach opportunity is happening in Fremont on Saturday, March 15, Love and Literacy. Love and Literacy is a family event organized by schools and organizations serving the Deaf and hard of hearing community. The Berkeley Public Library has attended the last 3 years (as have OPL and SFPL, my apologies if I’m forgetting anyone else who has been there), it’s one of the best events of the year in my book. Unfortunately, we can’t go this time. At past Love and Literacy’s, we have given away tons of books, made lots of library cards, and shared information about the library and library services with visitors. And it has been a terrific opportunity to gather more information about how to improve library services to Deaf and hard of hearing patrons.
The event typically features lots service providers to the Deaf and hard of hearing community, Deaf storytellers, arts and crafts, games, and lots and lots of families with children of all ages.
I told our contact at Berkeley’s Center for Early Intervention on Deafness, Davana Jackson (one of the co-organizers in the past) that I would spread the word among Children’s Librarians in the area so here we are.
The main contact for this year’s event is Christina Litzau of Deaf Counseling , Advocacy and Referral Agency (DACARA). She is in charge of organizing the vendors and booths and this is her contact information: Christina Litzau [email protected]

Thanks for considering and enjoy the day if you can make it!
