
Author Jane Yolen Dies: Award-winning children’s author and folklorist Jane Yolen died at age 87 on June 11. 2026. She wrote more than 400 books, from picture books, to poetry, to novels. For example, her picture book Owl Moon won the Caldecott Medal for its illustrator John Schoenherr, and her Holocaust tween novel Devil’s Arithmetic received the Sydney Taylor Book Award. Her daughter Heidi Stemple continues Yolen’s legacy as a children’s book author. Yolen is also known by many children’s librarians due to her regular speeches and presentations at library conferences, promoting children’s literature and folklore and the work of librarians everywhere.
