Applications are open for ACL’s Dorothy Helfeld Fellowships. Please share this announcement with anyone you think might be interested in applying.
If you or anyone you know is a student, recent graduate, early career librarian, or even just someone interested in children’s literature and librarianship, then the Dorothy Helfeld Fellowship is the opportunity for you!
– Applications Due: Friday, July 10, 2026
– Fellowship term: September 2026 – December 2027
– Fellows will be notified in August 2026
ACL offers up to four annual fellowships in tribute to Dorothy Helfeld, a member and reviewer for the organization from 1992 until her death in 2008. The fellowship offers rich opportunities for professional development and networking. Tap into an active group of Bay Area children’s librarians who meet monthly to share their passion for children’s literature and library services.
Fellowship recipients receive free membership and free admission to ACL’s annual Institute and Performers’ Showcase. In addition, each fellow will be paired with a mentor. Fellows are expected to make a reasonable effort to attend monthly ACL meetings and to become regular reviewers for the organization for the duration of their fellowship. Meetings alternate between in person in Oakland and by Zoom, and every meeting includes a professional development component.
If you have any questions about the fellowship, please feel free to reach out to the Dorothy Helfeld Committee or Celia Jackson ([email protected]).
Thanks for helping to spread the word! We look forward to getting some amazing applicants.
Best wishes,
Jennifer Agarwal, Celia Jackson, and Eboni Weston
Dorothy Helfeld Committee
