Steve Sanfield Dies: Steve Sanfield, a noted Bay Area author and poet, died on Jan. 28, 2015 at his home in the Sierra Foothills in Nevada County of heart failure. Along with his poetry for adults, Sanfield wrote several adaptations of folktales for children, including The Adventures of High John the Conquerer, Bit by Bit, and Snow. Ezra Jack Keats Awards Goes to Chieri Uegaki and Chris Haughton: The 29th Annual Ezra Jack Keats Book Awards were named on Feb. 11, 2015. Winner in the New Writer category is Chieri Uegaki for Hana Hashimoto, Sixth Violin (Kids Can Press, 2014). The winner for New Illustrator is Chris Haughton for Shh! We Have a Plan (Candlewick, 2014). New Writer Honors went to Adam Auerbach for Edda: A Little Valkyrie’s First Day of School, (Holt), Alan Rabinowitz for A Boy and a Jaguar (Houghton), and Misty Copeland for Firebird (Putnam).
