Buttons - Revised

It was surprising to see how many fun picture books feature buttons! The most famous was Don Freeman’s Corduroy. The books listed below include both buttons on clothing and buttons you would push to summon an elevator or push on electronics. Aber, Linda Williams. Grandma’s Button Box. After grandma’s button box spills, the cousins learn to sort the buttons in this simple math concept book.
Freeman, Don. Corduroy. A little girl saves up to buy a teddy bear who is missing a button from his overalls.
Davis, Aubrey. Bone Button Borscht. A beggar teaches the people of a small town how to make soup using buttons in this variation of the folktale “Stone Soup.”
Harper, Charise Mericle. The Good for Nothing Button. Three birds delight in a button that doesn’t do anything when you press it.
Litwin, Eric. Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons. Pete the Cat loves his shirt so much he makes up a song about it.
Nicholls, Sally. The Button Book. Animals discover what happens when they push different buttons in this interactive book.
Reid, Margarette S. The Button Box. A boy and his grandmother talk about the buttons she has and where they came from.
Richards, Danette. The Proud Button. A little girl gets a magical button from her aunt.
Taback, Simms. Joseph Had a Little Overcoat. In this Yiddish folktale. A man re-makes his tattered coat into a vest, then a shirt, then a button, etc.
Wolfer, Dianne. Nanna’s Button Tin. A little girl and her grandmother go through the button tin in search of a special button for Teddy.
