A Language of Stitches, a new picture book biography of local artist Rosie Lee Tompkins, contains an unfortunate error. The author transposed the name of quilt collector Eli Leon, whose name appears twice in the text as “Leon Eli.”

The book features very attractive illustrations and has received positive reviews, including from Kirkus, whose reviewer unwittingly repeated the error, referring to “collector Leon Eli.”
Yesica Hurd from Berkeley Public Library contacted the author, who is based in Oakland. Constance Moore is aware of the error and said that the publisher (Abrams) will fix it if there is a second printing. Meanwhile, she gave permission to correct the error by pasting over it.
Nine library systems in LINK+ already own the book or have it on order.
