Martha Shogren Dies: Longtime ACL member Martha Shogren has died. Martha was a children’s librarian at Berkeley Public Library for decades, mentoring many youth services librarians. She also was a leading light at ACL, helping newer children’s librarians learn how to review books and offer programs. Martha served as an officer of ACL many times, and led several Institutes. She also helped in establishing the Performers’ Showcase. She was active in the Bay Area Storytelling Festival. Martha died on June 10, 2024. She was married to Bob Shogren. What sad news! I have such lovely memories of her warm and generous hospitality from back when we quilters were needing a place to gather, and had none. She was always so sweet and I just loved her stories. What a loss!! You can say what you will about a long and happy life, but Martha was one of those people who will always be missed, and will live in my heart!! She definitely was an example of what it is to be a truly good person.
