Helfeld Fellowships, Sullivan Award, Children’s Choice Awards, Women’s History Programming Ideas

SFPL’s Luis Herrera Receives Sullivan Award: Luis Herrera, city librarian for San HerreraFrancisco Public Library, will receive the Peggy Sullivan Award as a “library administrator who has shown exceptional understanding and support for public library service to children.” He will be awarded at the ALA Conference in June in Las Vegas. www.ala.org/news/press-releases/2014/03/luis-herrera-director-san-francisco-public-library-receives-2014-sullivan .

Women’s History Month Programming Ideas:  Check out Penny Peck’s Brave Girlcontribution to the blog focusing on children’s books for Women’s History Month – http://kidlitwhm.blogspot.com/2014/03/d-i-y-womens-history-month-programming.html . There are five craft ideas and five games, all linked to a children’s book on women who have contributed to our society. You can do all of these for a large program, or one a day for a passive program.

Nominees for Children’s Choice Awards Announced: The nominees for the Children’s Choice Book Awards were announced on March 13, 2014.
