Kevin Brooks Wins Carnegie, Jon Klassen Wins Greenaway: The 2014 CILIP (Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, United Kingdom) medals were announced in London on June 23, 2014. Kevin Brooks was awarded the Carnegie Medal for The Bunker Diary (Puffin), a teen novel about a kidnapped child. Jon Klassen was awarded the Greenaway Medal for This Is Not My Hat (Walker), which he wrote and illustrated. This Is Not My Hat was previously awarded the 2013 Caldecott Medal in the United States. Author Nancy Garden Dies: Ground-breaking Young Adult author Nancy Garden died on June 24, 2014 from a heart attack at the age of 76. Best-known for her lesbian love story for teens, Annie On My Mind (FSG, 1982), she also wrote picture books and novels for tweens, as well as her teen novels.
