Alice Provensen Dies at age 99: Caldecott Medal-winning author/illustrator Alice Provensen has died at age 99. She often collaborated with her husband Martin Provensen, and the two won the Caldecott Medal for The Glorious Flight, published in 1983. Another popular book they illustrated was the Newbery Medal-winning A Visit to William Blake’s Inn, written by Nancy Willard in 1983. They began their career writing and illustrating for Little Golden Books and created the Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes mascot Tony the Tiger.
