Hi, Northern CA MLIS Students,
If you are passionate about Children’s literature or are interested in youth librarianship we have just the right fellowship for you!
If you are an MLIS student, recent graduate, or early career librarian based in Northern California who is enthusiastic about youth librarianship, then the Dorothy Helfeld Fellowship is an outstanding opportunity to immerse yourself deeply in the profession. The fellowship offers rich opportunities for professional development, networking, and mentorship.
ACL (Association for Children’s Librarians of Northern California) offers free annual fellowships in tribute to Dorothy Helfeld, a devoted reviewer for the organization from 1992 until her death in 2008. These esteemed fellowships share Dorothy’s inspiring commitment to recognizing the best in Children’s literature, with colleagues just entering the field which meant so much to her during her lifetime.
Fellows are asked to make a reasonable effort to attend the monthly ACL meetings and to become regular reviewers for the organization for the duration of their fellowship. To facilitate, we match each new fellow with an experienced mentor.
*Application Due Date: Friday, June 13, 2025
*Fellowship Term: September 2025-December 2026
*Fellows will be notified in August 2025
