Whales Storytime
Recently, we started to offer some storytime themes to go along with “Oceans of Possibilities,” the theme of the 2022 Collaborative Summer Library Program: https://www.cslpreads.org/ . Charman, Katrina. Whales on the Bus. This variation of the popular storytime song celebrates animals on the bus.
Ferry, Beth. A Small Blue Whale. A whale befriends a penguin.
Gibbes, Lesley. Fluke. Based on a true story, a whale named Fluke is born in Sydney Harbour.
Gugger, Rebecca. Ida and the Whale. One day, a whale shows up at Ida’s treehouse, and takes her on a journey.
Howell, Troy. Whale in a Fishbowl. Wednesday the whale is inspired by a little girl to leave his fishbowl to go to the sea.
Martin, Bill. Listen to Our World. Mothers urge their babies to listen to the world, depicting various habitats.
Magoon, Scott. Breathe. Invite listeners to “breathe” every time the young white whale does in this charming story of independence.
Pignataro, Anna. The Heart of a Whale. A lonely whale’s song inspires other ocean creatures to befriend him.
Wan, Joyce. The Whale in My Swimming Pool. A boy tries to get the whale out of his backyard pool so he can go swimming.
Westaway, Kylie. A Whale in the Bathtub. A boy can’t convince his family that a whale in the tub is preventing him from taking his bath.
Young, Beryl. Show Us Where You Live, Humpback. In this parallel story, a boy and a whale are cared for by their mothers.
