Dinosaurs Storytime – Revised
There is a plethora of easy crafts for young children to help them learn about dinosaurs:
Dinosaur Crafts and Printables (dltk-kids.com). Along with several of the fun stories listed below, do a craft project or send the kids home with a craft kit. A dinosaur puppet could be your storytime cohost, introducing each book and song.
Colandro, Lucille. There Was an Old Scientist Who Swallowed a Dinosaur! In this cumulative story based on the popular rhyme, a scientist swallows various things related to dinosaurs and paleontology.
Dyckman, Ame. How Dinosaurs Went Extinct: A Safety Guide. A humorous look at what could have killed the dinosaurs, such as swimming right after eating.
Hegarty, Patricia. The Tinysaurs Go to School. After a few accidents, three tiny dinosaurs adapt to school rules.
Heos, Bridget. Triceratopposite. A young triceratops does the opposite of what his parents tell him to do.
Idle, Molly. Tea Rex. A sister and brother host a T-Rex at their tea party.
Latimer, Alex. Am I Yours? In this rhyming story, a dinosaur egg asks different dinosaurs if they might be the parent.
Liu, Siyuan. Leilong the Library Bus. A sauropod visits the library to attend storytime even though he is too large for the room.
Marvin, Dan. If Dinosaurs Had Hair. Dinosaurs are shown in a variety of hair styles to help explain why there are no more dinosaurs.
Millett, Peter. The Dinos on the Bus. A variation on the popular storytime song “The Wheels on the Bus.”
Myers, Matthew. Dino-Gro. A toy dinosaur grows in water, increasing as it moves from a glass to a fish tank, and to the shower.
Norman, Kim. One-osaurus, Two-osaurus. In a rhyming counting book based on “One Potato,” various dinosaurs are featured.
Prasadam-Halls, Smriti. Dinos Don’t Give Up! Dinah Diplodocus usually succeeds at everything but she struggles in the surfing contest.
Stutzman, Jonathan. Tiny T. Rex and the Grand Ta-da! Tiny and his friend Pointy (a stegosaurus) perform magic for the talent show.
Tuma, Refe. What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night. Toy dinosaurs come alive at night to create havoc.
Yolen, Jane. “How Do Dinosaurs?” series. These funny rhyming picture books feature realistic dinosaurs in human homes, where they learn their manners or how to go to school.
