Camping and Hiking Storytime Ideas (2016)

Camping and Hiking – Revised

Do PrincessesMany city kids don’t get the chance to attend summer camp, or go hiking. Storytime can be a great way to introduce the subject and motivate families to enjoy local parks. Offer handouts on your local parks or other free summer programs that families could enjoy. For a craft, make simple leaf rubbings or pinecone bird feeders.  Also, check out our earlier Camping storytime suggestions: www.bayviews.org/storytime/stcamp/

Anon. Peppa Pig and the Camping Trip.   Peppa and family vacation on a camper van.

Berry, Lynne. Duck Tents.   Five little ducks go camping; read this after singing the song “Five Little Ducks.”

Clements, Andrew. Because Your Mommy Loves You.   A camping trip provides an opportunity for mother and son bonding.

Coyle, Carmela. Do Princesses Make Happy Campers?   In a brief rhyming text, Princess demonstrates that girls can enjoy roughing it on a camping trip.

Idle, Molly. Camp Rex.   The Dino-Scouts go on a camping trip.
