Modesto To End Elementary Library Instruction: Although there is no plan to close the nine elementary school libraries in Modesto, CA, staff received notices that their jobs may be eliminated and there will no longer be library instruction. Kirkus Offers Three $50,000 Prizes: Kirkus, the renowned book review journal, announced it will award three $50,000 prizes annually, in the categories of Fiction, Nonfiction, and Young Readers’ Literature. The first awards will come from books that receive a Kirkus starred review, and are published Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2014. The winners will be selected on Oct. 23, 2014. www.kirkusreviews.com/ .
CLA Debuts New Website: www.cla-net.org/. The California Library Association has extensively revamped their website to provide more and better opportunities to:
• get the latest information on CLA’s advocacy efforts, professional development activities, and programs;
• engage with colleagues online; and
• keep up-to-date with CLA member services and news.
