The Association of Children’s Librarians of Northern California offered the second part of a two-part workshop on puppetry for children’s librarians, conducted by Art Grueneberger of Puppet Art Theater Co. (Puppet Art Theater Co). Held on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, the date of our regular monthly meeting, our attendees enjoyed the special meeting location of Children’s Fairyland in Oakland. Celebrating its 75th anniversary, Fairyland let us use their Aesop’s Playhouse space where we made furry hand puppets, adding the eyes, nose, and other features. Our members were also able to see a puppet show and explore this beautiful outdoor park and attractions.

Our professional development coordinator Angela Moffett, who also works at Fairyland, said “Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday for a sweet morning at Fairyland. I had a great time connecting and playing, and hope you did, too. I didn’t get to take many pictures. If you did and you’re so inclined, please share them to this google album so we can see all the fun and how all the puppets came out: https://photos.app.goo.gl/rZac1R9wBVxfGQvG6.” Thanks to Angela for arranging and facilitating such a memorable day! Also, thanks to Lesley Mandros Bell for the photos seen below.
