DO IT YOURSELF PROGRAMMING
“Captain Underpants” Movie Showing and Activities
The film adaptation of “Captain Underpants” was released in theaters this summer to positive reviews. When it comes out on DVD, hold a “Captain Underpants” library program to draw in library patrons.
Celebrate the film with a movie showing augmented with crafts and games to make it an all-day event! Here are some programming ideas to make it a fun day:
Icebreaker: As guests enter, have each make a nametag with their Professor Poopypants name: www.pilkey.com/#fun-stuff . Check out this website for other printables, games, and ideas.
Refreshments Near a display of “Captain Underpants” books available for check-out, offer a snack of root beer, popcorn, and Tootsie Rolls.
Superhero Capes: Makes simple superhero capes out of plastic tablecloth rolls.
Flip Books: Make cartoon flip books as shown in the book series: www.scholastic.com/parents/resources/free-printable/reading-printables/make-flip-o-rama
Captain Underpants Craft Stick Bookmark: https://craftsbyamanda.com/captain-underpants-craft-stick-bookmark/
Superhero Masks: Have markers and stickers available to decorate simple eye masks, using the templates seen here: www.firstpalette.com/tool_box/printables/superhero.html
Turbo Toilet 2000 Toss: Make a Turbo Toilet out of a white plastic laundry basket by adding a cardboard toilet seat and tank. Have players toss waded up toilet paper into the Turbo Toilet, standing 6 feet away. Award prize if player can get the paper into the “toilet” with three attempts. www.pinterest.com/pin/235805730463920421
Toilet Paper Tower: Stack up several rolls of toilet paper, similar to the milk bottle toss at a carnival. Give players 3 beanbags; if they can knock down the tower they win a prize.
Captain Underpants Arcade: Set aside some computers to play the online “Captain Underpants” games at the Scholastic website: www.scholastic.com/kids/games/
