
Author Betsy Byars Dies: Newbery Medal winner Betsy Byars died on Feb. 26 at age 91 in South Carolina. Her first book, Clementine, was published in 1962 by Houghton Mifflin. She was awarded the Newbery Medal for Summer of the Swans (1970) and the National Book Award for The Night Swimmers (1981).
