Ezra Jack Keats Awards Announced: The 2024 Ezra Jack Keats Awards were announced on Feb. 21, 2024 to honor “early career authors and illustrators for excellence in portraying the multicultural nature of the world.” The awards are giving by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation in partnership with the deGrummond Children’s Literature Collection at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Writer Award: Anne Wynter for Nell Plants a Tree, (illus. by Daniel Miyares)
Illustrator Award: Sarah Gonzalez for The Only Way to Make Bread, (written by Cristina Quintero)
Writer Honors: Kim Rogers for Just Like Grandma (illus. by Julie Flett) and Helena Ku Rhee for Sora’s Seashells (illus by Stella Lim)
Illustrator Honors: Fran Alvarez for Dancing Hands (written by Joanna Que and Charina Marquez) and Beatriz Gutierrez Hernandez for Benito Juarez Fights for Justice.
