Wedding Storytime Ideas

Here are a few wedding-themed picture books that are great read alouds.

Uncle Bobby's Wedding

Brannen, Sarah. UNCLE BOBBY’S WEDDING.    Chloe worries that when her favorite uncle Bobby marries his boyfriend Jamie, he won’t have time for her.

Brown, Marc. D. W. THINKS BIG.    Arthur gets to be the ring bearer in their aunt’s wedding, but D.W. is too small to be a flower girl.

Cox, Judy. NOW WE CAN HAVE A WEDDING!    When two people from the same apartment building have a wedding, all the neighbors bring food from their cultures in this celebration of diversity.

Henkes, Kevin. LILLY’S BIG DAY.    Lilly expects to be the flower girl at her favorite teacher’s wedding, but he finds a different role for her to play.

Holabird, Katharine. ANGELINA AND THE ROYAL WEDDING.    Angelina is picked to be a bridesmaid at the wedding of the princess.

Johnson, Angela. THE WEDDING.    Daisy is the flower girl at her sister’s wedding; featuring an African-American family.

Look, Lenore. Uncle Peter’s AMAZING CHINESE WEDDING.    Jenny is afraid her uncle won’t have time for her after he is married, but learns differently at his wedding. Several references to Chinese wedding customs make this unique.

Mbuthia, Waithira. MY SISTER’S WEDDING: A STORY OF KENYA.    Wambui’s family prepares for the special event with food, songs, dances, and gifts.

Morris, Ann. WEDDINGS.    A very brief text is matched to color photos from weddings around the world.

Munsch, Robert. RIBBON RESCUE.    A Native American girl is wearing a traditional ribbon dress, which comes in handy when several people at a wedding are missing things like shoelaces, etc.

Soto, Gary. SNAPSHOTS FROM THE WEDDING.    Sculpy clay figures illustrate this tale of a Mexican-American wedding.

Zalben, Jane B. BENI’S FIRST WEDDING.    Beni the bear attends his uncle’s traditional Jewish wedding.
