Underwear Storytime Ideas

Nothing will make a preschooler laugh like the mention of the word “underwear!” Fortunately, there are several great picture books that do just that, yet are not inappropriate even for your Auntie Grizelda. For a craft project, make some animal stick puppets and add some underwear cut out of paper or of fabric scraps from Family Crafts.

  • App: My Underwear. Todd Parr, Thumb Arcade.

Bibliocommons Title List

Aylesworth, Jim. OLD BLACK FLY.    In this rhyming alphabet story, a black fly lands on various items, including the pile of clean underwear.

Doodler, Todd H. BEAR IN UNDERWEAR.    Bear finds a backpack filled with underwear and tries them on until he finds a pair that fits.

Doodler, Todd H. VEGGIES WITH WEDGIES.    On the farm, vegetables try on the underwear that was hung up to dry.

Freedman, Claire. ALIENS LOVE UNDERPANTS.    A fun rhyming story about why underpants disappear – aliens take them! Other sequels include dinosaurs and pirates and their underpants.

No! That's Wrong!

Ji, Zhaohua. NO! THAT’S WRONG!    A rabbit believes a pair of underpants is actually a hat in this comical story.

Lloyd, Sam. WHAT COLOR IS YOUR UNDERWEAR?    A lift-the-flap book that shows animals with different colored underwear. This also works as a flannelboard.

London, Jonathan. FROGGY GETS DRESSED.    In this hilarious story, Froggy awakes from hibernation and wants to go outside and play in the snow.

MacIver, Juliette. THE FROG WHO LOST HIS UNDERPANTS.    In this rhyming story, friends help frog find his stolen underwear.

Monsell, Mary Elise. UNDERWEAR!    The animals show Bismark the buffalo that underwear can be fun.

Moses, Brian. ANIMAL PANTS!    A brief, hilarious rhyme about various animals and their underpants.

Parr, Todd. UNDERWEAR BOOK.    Parr’s signature deeply saturated color cartoon illustrations give the do’s and don’ts of wearing underwear.

Sendelbach, Brian. THE UNDERPANTS ZOO.    At the zoo, animals wear underpants of different colors.

Smith, Elwood H. I’M NOT A PIG IN UNDERPANTS.    Can you guess who is the narrator, based on the clues given in this clever story?

Weston, Carrie. LUCKY SOCKS.    Kevin’s lucky yellow socks are missing – will a pair of yellow underwear bring him good luck too?

Willems, Mo. NAKED MOLE RAT GETS DRESSED.    Wilbur loves to get dressed but that is frowned upon in his family of naked mole rats.

Zapf, Marlena. UNDERPANTS DANCE.    Lily dances around to show off her fancy new underpants.
