Twelve animals and one human each narrate a different poem about how an oak tree is beneficial, describing how the oak provides shelter and food. Each brief poem begins with “This is my tree,” and is set opposite a paragraph with information on the animal and its interaction with the oak tree. The brightly colored acrylic gouache and colored pencil illustrations are lively, showing the insects, birds, and other animals close up. The book ends with more information about oak trees and a selected bibliography. Guide educators to these poems for units on trees, habitats, and poetry.
