In this jaunty, rhyming, debut picture book, Bear is looking for his best friend Pierre, who is a penguin, because it is Bear’s birthday. Bear looks through the town and finds similar black and white animals but not Pierre, but it all works out when Bear gets back home. The plot has similarities to other birthday-themed stories, but children will enjoy searching for Pierre who can be found in some of the brightly colored cartoonish illustrations by observant readers. The title is repeated several times, making this a great choice for an interactive storytime.
