Torseter, Oyvind. Hole 2, The. Oyvind Torseter, Illus. Translated from the Norwegian by Kari Dickson. Enchanted Lion, 11/2026. [74]pp. Picture Book. Trade $17.99. 978-1-59270-508-5. GRADES 1–3. ADDITIONAL.
This sequel to Dickson’s 2013 translation of The Hole (originally published in Norway, 2012) follows a guy tanish, with an elongated nose-type face who brings a hole home from a lab, loses the hole, searches for the hole all around town (with the light-skinned town’s folk), and eventually finds it again. The hole is the main point of every page and illustration, especially as there literally is a hole through the center of the book. Simple line-drawn illustrations, with some light colored areas, tell most of the story, while very limited speech bubbles provide a few clues as to what is going on. Astute readers who follow the clues and action will enjoy what the hole does while finding the guy a bit clueless about the nature of the hole and where it has gone.
