A beret-wearing girl with pale skin and purple hair enjoys creating art. Dismay sets in when her grandpa’s new pet bird, Vera, begins creating seemingly better, more awe-inspiring works of art than she can. Various mediums and art types are depicted, including paint on canvas, a stone sculpture, a mural, and a collage. The young artist becomes discouraged, but after a little encouragement from Grandpa and Vera the bird, she keeps creating and collaborates with Vera. Readers will be surprised by what the bird can do, while relating to the girl’s simpler artwork, and relieved at Grandpa’s efforts to showcase the girl’s art. Budding artists will appreciate the variety of art and the message that every artist is different.
