Mari loves Saturdays, the day her half-sister Luz comes to visit. They carefully plan their activities so as not to waste a minute of their short time together, especially when Luz’s mom gives them an extra two hours. As with other titles in Charlesbridge’s “Steam Works” series, the story incorporates various STEAM topics. This story features the topic of time: estimating how long something takes to do, prioritizing things you have time for, and basic time-related math. Quezada Padron weaves an engaging tale about these half sisters and the fun they have calculating what they have time to do. Digital, mixed-media illustrations demonstrate how well the girls get along, their dad’s engagement with them, and the brief, yet positive appearance of both moms together. The author’s dad and half siblings are from the Dominican Republic, which is reflected in the brown toned, dark haired family. An interesting combination of family dynamics and time telling, which can appeal to many readers.
