The life and accomplishments of Randolph Caldecott are presented in the picture-book-sized book filled with Caldecott’s drawings. Additionally, there are photographs and historic etchings of the towns and homes where Caldecott lived. Children who discover this book will be delighted by the creative, entertaining, and informative text. Marcus tells Caldecott’s story while also giving readers a rich background of life in 19th century England. Back matter includes a timeline, list of Caldecott’s books, source notes, and bibliography, but no index. The endpapers are amusing. This is an excellent piece of research that adults will pour over and children who are artists or history lovers will enjoy.
