Salerni, Diane K. Jadie in Five Dimensions. Fiction. Holiday House, 10/2021. 288pp. $17.99. 978-0-8234-4909-5. OUTSTANDING. GRADES 5-8.
Jadie has a lot that sets her apart from other 13-year-old Kansians: soccer skills, grades, a distinctive birthmark. But most notably she, her parents, brother, friend, and neighbors are all agents for superintelligent beings from a higher dimension (The Seers) who adjust Earth’s present to produce a brighter future. Then Jadie finds herself assigned to destroy a computer in an apartment that clearly belongs to her birth family. Soon Jadie and her jerky neighbor Ty are hacking cross-dimension travel in an effort to uncover what the Seers are really about. A strong multi-racial cast, full of believable teens, adults, and aliens, plenty of mind-bending math and science-fiction invention, a cracking plot, and a storyline that engages emotion make this a clear winner.
