Preschool Storytime Ideas

Surfing and Swimming

It's January, which means it is time to start planning for the Summer Reading Program! Below are some themes that go along with "Make a Splash - READ," which is the theme that most California libraries are using due to the materials sent from the California Library Association. Atkins, Jeannine. GET SET! SWIM!
   A girl learns to be proud of herself due to her accomplishments at a swim meet. With a Latina main character.

Bass, Scott. GIRL VS. WAVE.
   Ruby overcomes her fear and learns how to surf.

Brown, Marc. D.W. ALL WET.
   Arthur's bratty little sister learns to swim at the beach.

Hest, Amy. MAKE THE TEAM, BABY DUCK!
   Grandfather encourages Baby Duck at the pool.

London, Jonathan. FROGGY LEARNS TO SWIM.
   Froggy's mother (wearing a snorkel and flippers) teaches him how to swim.

Mahy, Margaret. THE GREAT WHITE MAN-EATING SHARK.
   A boy likes to swim in the cove without others crowding him, so he disguises himself as a shark.

Mammano, Julie. RHINOS WHO SURF.
   Surfer lingo brightens up this look at rhinos who surf!

Rodriguez, Edel. SERGIO MAKES A SPLASH.
   Sergio the penguin is afraid to swim in deep water.

Winton, Tim. THE DEEP.
   Alice overcomes her fear of deep water when she sees the dolphins at the beach.
