2010 Performer's Showcase

Back to Showcase home

INFORMATION for Performers NOT included in the program.

For reasons of space, performers (those who applied before the September 2009 deadline) who have appeared more recently than 2003 have not been accepted into the 2010 Showcase. The entire line-up will be brand new performers and those who last appeared in or before 2003.

In addition, we regret that "old-timers" - those who have appeared at Showcases before- will not be allowed to set up a table with their brochures during the Showcase. The ONLY performers who will be granted table space in the library lobby area are those who both applied formally to the 2010 Showcase and appeared most recently in 2004, 2005, or 2006. You should know who you are, and should have received formal information about this in October/November 2009.

We will accept brochures from those old-timers who would like to send them. These will be made available to the audience from tables in the performance space. If you are interested in this, please send your materials to: Kay Lingo, Fremont Main Library, 2450 Stevenson Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538. Please write on the envelope: "Showcase/ For table distribution".

Those of you who have appeared at a Fremont-based Showcase realize how small the space is; it was reduced even further last year by having the space known as the Van Doorn Room turned into a computer lab. We have decided that our priority is to showcase the new performers; that is why librarians continue to attend the Showcase year after year. The presence of other performers not in the line-up (with the exception of those who applied by the deadline and were turned down only because of space) makes it possible to fit into such small quarters and gives those auditioning the audience's full attention.

We are initiating this year another innovation that, I hope, will eventually benefit all our old-timers. We are creating a web page that gives the websites of all performers appearing at the year's Showcase, divided into performance categories. We plan to leave up these pages so that over the years this will become a resource for librarians booking programs, and new staff will know that even if someone is not included in this year's showcase that their appearance on the list means that these performers have appeared at Showcase and someone among the local children's librarian network will have experience to share about them.

We hope you understand the restrictions we are working under.

Elizabeth and Armin
