The Dorothy Helfeld Scholarship ACL invites students of children's librarianship and/or children's literature to apply for an annual membership scholarships. Up to three annual scholarships are available to cover the cost of a year's membership in ACL, the 11 issues of BayViews and attendance at the annual Institute. The Association of Children's Librarians of Northern California was founded in the 1930s by a group of public and school librarians.
Members meet monthly at the Oakland Public Library* to review books for young people and discuss related issues.

ACL reviews are published in BayViews, a journal of book reviews and opinions with a western perspective.

* - Meetings are typically at the Oakland Public Library , however, some of the 2012 meetings were hosted at the Berkeley Public Library due to Oakland facility closures.
